Creative Crumb…Kickstarter.com
For the past year, Culturites have been hearing bits & pieces about the site kickstarter.com, an online funding platform for creative projects. It wasn’t until the holidays hit and we had some time to peruse and realize just how BRILLIANT it is. Kickstarter.com is a company after our own hearts by providing a platform for emerging artists.
The concept: Every week, tens of thousands of people pledge millions of dollars to fund creative projects in the design, culinary, art, film, technology, fashion and publishing worlds. Instead of the investors owning shares & having input into how the project is run, they receive limited edition products or experiences to compensate them. Since launching in 2009, Kickstarter.com has funded over 15,000 creative projects and made many people’s dreams become a reality.
Below are a few of our favorite funded projects in the fields of art, fashion, film and tech…
ART PROJECT: Sculpture piece titled “Crania Anatomica Filigre: Me to You”
Artist Joshua Harker had originally asked for $500 to fund his project and received $77,271 making it the 3rd most funded art project on Kickstarter.com Click here to see his passionate video on the idea behind his piece.

FASHION PROJECT: The Versalette by (r)revolution apparel
After two women went backpacking in developing countries, they had an epiphany that they could have more with less and with that idea in mind, they designed The Versalette - a multifunctional piece that can be worn 15 different ways. The Versalette was the #1 most funded fashion project on Kickstarter.com. Click here to check out their amazing story.

FILM PROJECT: In the Nest
